vermaaklikheid...entertainment...?
On the banks of the Duiwenhoks River on the Southern Coast of South Africa, lies a sleepy little hamlet called Vermaaklikheid. A special hideaway untouched by time and progress. A place where one can escape from the pressures of modern living and where body and soul can be restored.
They offer three beautiful, fully equipped, self-catering cottages on the river, for nature lovers and adventurers. The facilities are thoughtful and tasteful to provide comfortable and easy holiday living.
Access to River Shell is by row boat to your own jetty, a short trip across the river symbolic of leaving the rat race behind. The architecture is a hybrid of Tolkien fantasy, boathouse and Kaapstyl Huisie. River Shell's individual elements are pure and consciously tailored to harmonise soul with setting. The bedrooms have limewashed wooden floors and handmade beds of wood and local reed. The ceiling is pitched thatch, punctured here and there by skylights. Attention to minute detail extends to the pebble inlays, shell door handles, hand-embroidered pure cotton linen and walls washed with aloe sap. A central courtyard leads to a cosy kitchen area containing an open hearth and cane and bluegum furniture, while to the side of the cottage you'll find an airy reed and thatch bathroom, with an enormous bath, shower and toilet.
